Research Associate/Data Manager

General Description:
Reporting to the Director of Baruch College Survey Research, the Research Associate/Data Manager will be responsible for survey data analysis, database management and sample management for all survey projects as well as programming of surveys and testing and maintenance of survey software.

Other Duties:
-Data analysis including production of crosstabulations, banners, significance tests
-Database management for all survey projects, using CfMC CATI survey software, Qualtrics ,SPSS, SAS, STATA, Excel
-Sample management & post-survey weighting under direction of statistician
-Programming of online surveys using Qualtrics
-Some programming of CATI surveys using CfMC Survent software
-Managing data entry, cleaning, coding, preparation of tables, charts
-Testing and maintenance of all survey software
-Coordination of operations with staff, consultants, and software vendors
-Participation in survey proposals, analysis and reports
-Documentation of all procedures

Core Competencies/Qualifications:
-Masters degree with 2-3 years of related experience preferred
-Experience in database management and survey data analysis
-Strong statistical, programming and data management skills
-Proficiency in SPSS, writing SPSS Syntax, Excel, Access
-Proficiency in tabulation of survey data
-Proficiency in Qualtrics, CfMC Survent & Mentor software
-Prior work experience in survey research center strongly preferred
-Demonstrated broad understanding of survey research
-Organizational skills, problem solving ability, attention to detail,
-Ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple tasks,

The Washington Post has an opening in its polling unit ... just in time for the midterms, a hot D.C. mayor's race and a competitive re-run in the contest for Maryland governor.

Responsibilities:
-Assist in the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of Washington Post, Post-ABC News and Post-Kaiser-Harvard polls;
-Write and edit survey stories for the Post in print and online;
-Format, recode, analyze and report quantitative data;
-Prepare data tables and reports for reporters;
-Track state and national survey questions, topics and trends;
-Maintain and build survey databases;
-Respond to inquiries about public opinion data;
-Track response rates and other survey administration data;
-Use initiative in contributing to polls, blogs and articles.

Qualifications:
-Superior quantitative and qualitative analytical ability;

Glevum Associates is currently seeking Quantitative Analysts to conduct research and analysis for our clients. In these exciting roles you will be part of a Research and Analysis Management Team based in Afghanistan or Iraq. Responsibilities include supporting Glevum clients to understand their information requirements, developing comprehensive research collection plans, and developing culturally appropriate survey instruments and sample plans. Additionally, you will be responsible for working with survey field teams, supervising coding and data processing and determining the reliability of collected research and produce methods reports. Lastly, you will be responsible for conducting detailed methodologically sound social science analysis of all collected research and producing written reports on research findings and delivering verbal briefs to all relevant parties.

Requirements:

M.A. in survey methodology or a related field with a strong survey research background or a BA and a minimum of 2 + years' academic or commercial experience in survey research.

Must be able to use, expertly, SPSS including SPSS Syntax and ideally not essentially SAS. Knowledge of geo-coding for opinion mapping a plus.

Must have experience using basic descriptive and inferential statistics.

Must be able to convert SPSS files into Excel spreadsheets and develop relevant survey type graphs and charts in PowerPoint, Excel or SPSS.

Must be U.S. Citizen and have an active Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Security Clearance. Must be able to deploy to Afghanistan or Iraq.

- Write data collection programs using CfMC SURVENT, the Poll's data collection software.
- Review questionnaires to ensure accurate programming and data layout.
- Support the Director of the Poll in research areas as required. Support the Assistant Director in all aspects of data collection and analysis operations.
- Maintain phone bank resources.
- Respond as a team member to guarantee successful polling operations, at times requiring flexibility in work hours and assignments.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- Programming experience is a must.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills are needed along with the ability to work effectively in an environment where attention to detail and meeting deadlines is critical. Must be able to maintain composure under pressure and demonstrate the ability to manage changing priorities.
- Flexibility in work hours and responsibility is essential as is the determination to complete each task to the best of your ability. Reliability is a must along with a positive attitude toward doing more in every day than is required.

DESCRIPTION:

The Associated Press seeks a Deputy Director of Polling, based in its Washington, D.C., bureau.

The Deputy Director of Polling works closely with the Director of Polling in commissioning original public opinion polls in the United States and overseas on newsworthy and human interest topics.

The Deputy Director works with the Director and news managers to develop ideas for public opinion polls, writes survey questionnaires, manages the work of outside polling vendors, analyzes survey data and writes statistical analysis programs, analyzes survey data for reporters and editors, and works closely with the multimedia staff in creating graphics and interactives on poll findings. Depending on qualifications, the Deputy Director may be asked to write poll stories and/or do AP interviews about the polls for the Web, TV and radio.

The Deputy Director also offers technical assistance to AP journalists worldwide in their reporting of public opinion surveys, including those done by AP and those done by other organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Deputy Director of Polling must be both a survey researcher with a strong background in the science of public opinion research, and a journalist, with an understanding of the news business. The Deputy Director should have training in quantitative social science research methods, solid experience in managing public opinion research projects, and an interest in news that includes but goes beyond politics and elections. Superior programming skills in SPSS and other statistical analysis packages is required. Minimum 5 years experience working in a survey research position. Experience working for a news organization would be a major plus.
